Louis Brandsma is a self taught nature artist who was born and raised in southern Alberta. He grew up on a farm, where he learned to love and appreciate the wildlife around him. He began drawing at a young age and started painting as a teenager. As his work progressed, he became inspired by the works of the dutch masters Van Ruisdael and Hobbema. He has also been inspired by wildlife artists Robert Bateman and Daniel Smith.
Louis Brandsma's art focuses on reflecting the wildlife and landscapes found in Western Canada. Much of his inspiration comes from hiking in the Canadian Rockies. He concentrates on painting a realistic representation of nature. Through his art, Louis strives to share the love and thankfulness he has for this wonderful creation; his brushstrokes are sensitive, his paintings convincing. His paintings both in oil and acrylic can be found in collections throughout North America.
Louis currently resides on an acreage near Lethbridge, Alberta with his wife Cindy, near their children and grandchildren.
